Odd as it may sound, there are times when Sally reminds me of Lisa Simpson, another bright girl who’s constantly being failed by her family, her neighbors, and the world at large. We know from Simpsons episodes set in the future that Lisa turned out just fine, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Sally did, too, despite the forces arrayed against her.
